At Highlights Early Learning, we believe kindness is more than a nice-to-have.
It’s a way of being that helps children thrive in their relationships, school, and life. One of the most powerful ways children learn what kindness looks like is through stories.
We are thrilled to introduce Building Kindness Through Children’s Literature, a thoughtfully curated series of book collections for infant, toddler, multi-age, and Pre-K classrooms, each paired with a practical Teacher Guide.
At Highlights Early Learning, we believe kindness is more than a nice-to-have.
The Teacher Guides—with elements made to go home with the books—make it simple for teachers and families to turn story time into learning time and meaningful moments between adults and children that deepen conversation and connection.
Each book invites children to explore what it means to live in a world with others—how to care, how to share, how to notice, and how to act. These stories show children kindness in action and help them build everyday skills like empathy, cooperation, patience, self-awareness, responsibility, and respect.
Collections are available for infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, three-year-olds, preschool, and Pre-K.

To make the most of each of the collections, we’ve created Teacher Guides with resources not just for educators but also families to go along with each book. These quick, practical tools help spark conversations, stretch the learning, and make kindness something children don’t just read about but also something they do.
Each unique Teacher Guide includes:
- Before, during, and after reading suggestions
- Grown-up Guides for each title that include conversation starters, vocabulary selections, open-ended questions, and extension activities
- Classroom rituals, routines, and activities that build kindness
- On-demand professional development video
- Activities to promote kindness in the home and community
How this collection supports our four pillars of early learning:
Literacy
Reading aloud builds strong early literacy skills. These books invite children to listen, imagine, and play with language in meaningful ways.
Kindness and Resilience
Kindness, empathy, and perseverance shine through these stories, helping children build inner strength and caring hearts.
Kindergarten Readiness
Through stories about cooperation, self-awareness, patience, and respect, children practice skills that help them thrive in kindergarten and beyond.
Family Engagement
The Grown-Up Guides make it easy for families to keep the kindness conversation going at home, turning story time
Where kindness leads, learning follows!
